I will copy the This Week's Agenda and paste it here every time I update. This will be a running copy of all the weekly agendas, so the entire year will be archived here. Students found this to be very helpful when they absent or need to make-up a missing assignment and need directions.
Thursday August 10th Today we will: "Excavate" the classroom and find out about the class and Mrs. Molinaro through investigation. So we can: Begin thinking like a historian by observing, making connections, inferences and claims about our surroundings. We will know we have it when: We can list at least 4 claims and support them with evidence that we found throughout the room. CW- (1st 5) Welcome Back!!! Today we will board a plane to take a "tour" of what our year will look and see the types of activities we will do in class. Collect donations, make name tent, fill out boarding pass. Watch brief trailer about where we will travel and one about the activities. We will start thinking like historians and "excavate" the classroom to try and find artiFACTS about the course and clues about Mrs. Molinaro. Since social scientists collaborate, you will be able to work in pairs or small teams to observe, analyze and make claims while you support those claims with evidence. (Two parts: Teacher and Classroom.) There is a A LOTto find! I encourage you to snoop! Look in cabinets, behind curtains in drawers etc. I challenge you to find them all! But you need to look carefully! We will debrief and share answers to the classroom scavenger hunt and will talk about each of the features and their relevance to the course. Then we share our claims and evidence about Mrs. Molinaro. HW- To check your email and complete the student survey. Don't forget tomorrow is an advisory schedule!
NOT done this year: Interview 2 people as primary sources (adults - it can be your parents, grandparents, relative, family friend, coach, etc.) In your IN, briefly write the name of the Interviewee and then their responses to these 3 questions: 1. How old were you when the World Trade Center's Twin Towers and the Pentagon were attacked on 9/11/01? 2. Where were you and what were you doing? What state? Where you working? Going to school? 3. What emotions and thoughts were going through your mind as you learned about the attacks? Watch 3 brief video clips with discussion: TheMan In The Red Bandana (voices and POV of family, survivors, etc.), September 11th: Why We Remember, A Single Rose: Celebrating Each Life Lost (Both about the memorial and coming together as a community)

In LARGE BOLD writing, write your First and Last Name, World History Per. ____, Mrs. Molinaro, 2023-2024. Turn to the next page and save it for your Prehistory Cover page (Wed. night HW)- and behind it glue your SSP (Student Study Picks) Title the next page "IN Detectives". IN Detectives: Draw a horizontal line across your paper about 1/3 of the way down the page. With your shoulder partner look through the INs on your desk and bullet note any observations you note....how is it organized? what type of activities might we be doing? what are some characteristics or themes you see? (aim for at least 15 but you will find more!!!) THEN, separate the bottom portion of the paper into 2 sections. In each section generate a spoke diagram. Look at your observations and draw a conclusion about the IN. Make a claim (educated idea you believe to be true), circle it. Draw 3 branches from the claim. At each branch or spoke, write a piece of evidence to support your claim (these probably will come from your observations) You need a minimum of 2 claims, each with a minimum of 3 examples/evidence. Ex. Claim: Very Organized Tool. Evidence 1: TOC, pages #'ed, dated, titled. Evidence 2: Divided into Units-each a section has a cover page, Evidence 3: Many Graphic Organizers- Venn Diagrams, T-Charts, Timelines. etc.. ALSO use laptops to create a SS folder in Outlook and a World History folder in OneDrive. Talk about email etiquette and file organization. Glue in the "Stone Age Timeline" into your IN and date it. We will discuss/take notes on the general Stone Age Timeline and introduce the Paleo vs. Neo Chart. Review the format and structure of taking notes by outlining and flowcharts. Color and label map carefully. THIS is the map that will be on next Tuesday's test. Watch Crash Course Video: Agricultural Revolution if time. We also went over a study tips in class today to start making the studying more interactive... 1.) print blank timeline or maps from website, place in plastic sleeve and use dry erase marker to practice/ check against the key handed out in class (and in your MVP folder) 2.) make cards of hominid names, put them in sequential order in a row, make smaller cards each with a single fact (ex. "Handy Man", "Donald Johanson", "Biped", "Fire", "Community", "Leakeys", etc.) jumble them up in a pile and place them under each hominid they belong to/check against notes and redo. 3.) throughout our notes today, I continually said "this is the essay question... write ES/circle/highlight" or "this is a question on the test... write T/circle/highlight" hopefully you were doing so HW- Read from the Early Human World Text Ch. 19 "The Farmer in the Tell: Domestication of Plants nad Animals" AND Ch. 20 "Dear Diary: Origins of Settled Life" Go to the Prehistory textbook link to find tonight reading.

First state how they did it in Paleolithic Times, then list 2 important facts of how it was different in Neolithic Times, then explain why these facts are important. Switch rolls for the next sections. While completing the Paleo and Neo parts of the charts you should have at least outlined an A., 1., 2., and a B., 1., 2., you may have more but need to have at least 2 main ideas with two supporting details each. The last column WILL NOT be found in the book, that is where you and your partner discuss HOW this change IMPACTED their life, how did it make it better? HW-If you did not complete your CW today you need to finish the Paleo vs. Neo Chart. HA book Ch. 3 (on website under Prehistory Textbook) Finish filling in your SSP, it will be checked Monday! Continue studying and preparing for your Prehistory Unit Test that is next Tuesday, September 19th and your Super Hominid that is due next Wednesday September 20th. Some resources for you to use: your IN notes on the early hominids, the stone age timeline, paleo vs. neo chart, these were from HA Ch. 2 and 3. Additionally, the videos posted on our class website are a good review of what we learned: Before We Ruled the Earth series (there are 4 all together and each one is approximately 14 minutes each) and then there are the Mr. Corwin Agricultural Revolution videos (2) of them that talks about Paleolithic vs. Neolithic life. I would DEFINITELY look over and know the Neolithic Map that you should have labeled and colored from last week that can be found on your Stone Age Timeline notes. If you did not complete that, it can be found in the Prehistory Maps dropdown on our website. It would be VERY helpful for you to look over/print the Prehistory Study Guide posted on our class website. Then as a team use the table dry erase boards to share out your ideas on a large team T-Chart. (copy any new ideas from your tablemates onto your chart on your packet) Look on each side of your chart.... circle your top 3 strongest arguments for COSTS and your top 3 strongest arguments for BENEFITS. Look through Documents A-F and find the ones that support each of your circled ideas. List the letter of all of the documents that support it. This is a small debate where you can test out the validity and strength of your ideas (claims/evidence) before committing to your path for writing your argumentative essay. We will break up into 2 groups COSTS and BENEFITS. You will have a few minutes to discuss your claims and supporting documents with your group, select a spokesperson to share out/start the debate. Each side must cite documents to support their claims. All will follow along and make notes for counter claims etc. Students can tap in and out of the discussion. When we are done, look at your position and buckets. Do you need to make any changes? Change your claim/reason? Switch sides? Make your adjustments. THEN write your "chicken foot" the answer to the question goes on the leg and each toe (branch) is one of your reasons (title of the bucket). You want to organize your reasons according to strength... typically a relatively strong one is 1st, your moderate or weakest is in the middle (or second) and the strongest is often last. Copy your "chicken foot" sentence (or 2) into the THESIS box of the DBQ graphic organizer map. THEN write your reasons in each box. You already have the documents that you selected for each... Write the letter of the document above the word evidence. Then write a quote and brief summary of how you will use it from that document. There should be a minimum of 2 different documents used as evidence, but one of the 3 boxes can use a second part/quote/point of that document if you don't have a 3rd document.
