Making Cylinder Seals
We learned that in Ancient Mesopotamia, only wealthy males went to school and learned to read and write. So Sumerians had individual cylinder seals carved from stone that they wore around their neck. It was unique to them and represented their signature so that those who could not write could sign their name to documents and receipts by rolling the seal across the clay tablet. In class, students personalized their own cylinder seals!
