The Standard of Ur
We started to explore Ancient Mesopotamia and considering if it has the elements which consider it a civilization. We learned about Sir Leonard Woolley and his excavation of the city-state Ur. One of the finds was a special triangular box called The Standard of Ur. It is a mosaic inlaid with shell, red limestone and lapis lazuli. One panel depicts a time of WAR and the other a time of PEACE. Students analyzed this primary source and made claims about the civilization using evidence to support those claims.
